ECM Plus +++ Insurgent Internet web browser player Mozilla Firefox has just launched Version 4 of its popular web software, and according to independent webstat bellwether StatCounter, has already nabbed 1.95 percent of the worldwide Internet browser user base.
StatCounter reports that on the first day of Firefox 4’s official release yesterday, it scored higher globally than even the new Internet Explorer Version 9 which was launched over a week ago.
“Firefox 4 has really hit the ground running and has eclipsed the launch of IE 9,” commented Aodhan Cullen, CEO, StatCounter. “Although IE 9 has undoubtedly been hampered by its lack of compatibility with Windows XP.” By yesterday IE 9 had taken just 0.87% of the worldwide market.
StatCounter said that when all versions of each browser are taken into account, Internet Explorer still leads the global market with 45 percent followed by Firefox with 30 percent and Chrome trailing far behind at a meagre 17 percent, while Opera, Safari and Iron featured also.
In the USA, Intenet Explorer (all versions combined) still heads up the market with 48 percent of all web browser software, followed then by Firefox at 26 percent and Chrome on even less, at just 14 percent of all users.
On a monthly basis, StatCounter said its figures showed a steady decline in the IE global market share from 55 percent in February 2010 to 45 percent this year.
StatCounter also reported recently that Mozilla Firefox had overtaken Internet Explorer to become the number one browser across Europe for the first time in December 2010.
