ECM Plus +++ The shocking news that Twitter, Facebook and BlackBerry company Research In Motion have all indicated that they will be resisting attempts to shut them down in future riots – as conduits of violence, crime and riot planning – is a sad day for British social justice.
The many businesses and homes targeted by the rioters should act as a testament to why these disgusting ‘social’ media conduits are past their sell-by-date, not fit for purpose, abused and should now be shut down completetely before they can be allowed to do any more damage.
The fact that BlackBerry is encrypted means that the rioters will again be able to use that system to plan further chaos and criminal damage and should therefore be shut down immediately. So too the rabble-rousing capabilities of ‘Twitter’ and ‘Facebook’ should be seen for the conduits of violence and mayhem that they are too – and closed down immediately.
Taking such risks with public safety is unacceptable and these methods should be put beyond use by these criminals – once and for all.
This country does not need such entities to cause any more distress to the good people of this country ever again. We managed perfectly well in this country before these anti-social networks existed, we can all live without them – and insodoing – avoid a repetition of the harrowing riots that occured on our streets.
Let us be clear that there is no way these social networking sites can be allowed to undermine our society ever again, the fact that they may have more innocent uses is secondary. Now that we have all seen how dangerous these things can be, it should be a no-brainer that there is no place in a civilized society for such wicked and errant devices.
During difficult economic times, these are the last things we need. The best way to proceed therefore is to close them all down once and for all and to get back to the use of Internet for business, academia, research, shopping, hobbies and more civilized discourse, not riot planning tools for the criminal fraternity and their minions of pain and suffering. The sight on our television screens and from our bedroom windows of rioters and looters smashing up our high streets and businesses is a sight that makes right-minded people sick to their stomachs. Never again.
Ban them now. Close them down. Stop the rioters.
No to anti-social networking.
