ECM Plus /London/ +++ Computer behemoth Dell is to begin offer a permanent storage solution to its European customers with the integration of M-DISC compatible LG Electronics DVD and Blu-ray optical drives in its laptop and desktop computers.

According to the company, Dell EMEA will begin offering the M-DISC Ready drives in their business class precision workstation, OptiPlex Desktops and Latitude Notebooks throughout Europe beginning this month.

“For the first time, Dell business users will benefit from a permanent storage solution that will last virtually forever” commented Paul Brockbank, Millenniata president. “So much of our lives today are created in a digital format, so it’s vitally important that we preserve and continue to share our information. We are very pleased that Dell’s European customers will now have access to our M-DISC technology.”

M-DISC Ready drives laser-etch data into an inorganic rock-like material to prevent data loss, ensuring your files are safe and can be stored for up to 1000 years, the company claims.

Unlike all other recordable DVDs that use organic dyes to hold data, M Discs won’t fade or degrade over time.

M-DISC is the perfect permanent storage solution for back up and archive of business critical data and application files; personal documents; photo and video libraries; genealogical and other personal records;

According to Dell, their ‘proof’ reads thus: ‘An accelerated life test performed by the U.S. Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division at China Lake, Calif. tested five brands of archival-quality DVD discs including the Millenniata M-DISC for data longevity and reliability. The test found that the M-DISC was the only solution that suffered no degradation or data loss. All other discs tested failed.’

Dell said its computers will use drives manufactured by Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Inc. Only LG Electronics M-DISC Ready drives can write to M-DISCs, but the discs can then be read in any DVD drive.

Millenniata’s patented technology is the world’s first permanent digital storage solution and is composed of the M-DISC and M-DISC compatible drives. The M-DISC is the first backward compatible non-dye based DVD optical technology constructed of inorganic materials that are known to last centuries. This combination allows information to be written once and read over time. For more information, visit http://www.m-disc.com.
