Britain suffering from inflated data centre pricing – report

Pricing remains one of highest in Europe, increase in new raised floor space outside the London area will constrain growth in future pricing

ECM Plus /London/ +++ A new report published by Tariff Consultancy Ltd (TCL) ‘Data Centre Pricing UK 2012’ reveals that the British data centre market is set to rise by 35 percent to 767,000 square metres of raised floor space by the end of 2017, whilst at the same time, seeing average rack space pricing remaining high at above £800 per month.

According to the report, the main reason for the increase in data centre development is the growth in new campus-based data centres outside London, which will also act as a brake on forecast future average rack space price increases. Continue reading

Data centre M&A valued at over US$12.3 billion worldwide in 2011

ECM Plus +++ Mergers and acquisition activity in the datacentre sector for both businesses and property, generated more than US$12.3 billion in deal values globally in 2011.

The most active market is the USA followed by Britain and Australia, according to a review of finance and investment in the data centre sector, from research by consulting firm BroadGroup which assessed all publicly-available data across M&A and fund raising activity. Continue reading

Safe File Sharing launched as British businesses deal with data deluge

ECM Plus +++ Cloud file specialist Egnyte has just opened its doors at a new Cloud File Server data centre in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, which, it says, will enable it to meet strong demand from British firms looking for secure file sharing and storage.

Egnyte said that small and medium-sized companies now contribute nearly half of money spent on the cloud in Britain and cite remote storage as their biggest reason for using the cloud. Continue reading
